South East Alego Youths Get Diaspora Job Opportunities

About 250 youths from South East Alego will benefit with 50 recruited today for overseas job opportunities in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Oman, in a programme led by the area MCA, Hon. Scholarstica Masidis Madowo, in collaboration with the Directorate of Labour.
The recruitment, held today, attracted about 200 women and 50 men seeking employment opportunities abroad.
Hon. Masidis said the programme was part of efforts to connect local youths with jobs while ensuring their safety and welfare.
She applauded the Kenyan government for strengthening measures to make overseas employment safer for Kenyan workers compared with the past.
“Some of the jobs available include domestic work and cleaning for women, while men are expected to get opportunities in construction, driving, security and other sectors,” said Hon. Masidis.
She assured applicants that the recruitment process would be transparent and free of charge.
According to Masidis, the first group could leave for their destinations in about a month, after completing the necessary documentation, including passport processing.
She said the Ministry of Labour would support successful female applicants with the required processing costs. Male applicants, she added, would be linked with KCB Bank for loans to help meet transport and passport-processing expenses.
“The programme is free, and all successful female applicants are expected to leave in about a month after their passports are processed. For the men, we will link them with KCB Bank to help facilitate the required expenses,” she added.
Pauline Akinyi, 29, who previously worked in Saudi Arabia, encouraged the recruits not to fear working abroad.
“Working in Saudi Arabia is not as bad as people sometimes say. My situation at home was difficult, so I decided to seek employment there. The secret to succeeding is being prayerful and focused on your work,” said Akinyi.
She cited cultural differences, language barriers, diet and harsh climatic conditions as some of the challenges she experienced.
The recruitment adds to other youth initiatives in South East Alego, including driving programmes and ICT Hub opportunities, aimed at improving access to employment and skills.
