The Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ revelation that two serving police officers are allegedly linked to the murder of Dr. Victoria Mutiso is more than another criminal investigation. It is an indictment of the devastating consequences that arise when those entrusted with protecting lives are accused of taking them.
The allegations are chilling. According to investigators, one officer is suspected of pulling the trigger while another allegedly supplied the firearm used in the killing. If these claims are ultimately proven in court, they represent not only individual criminal acts but a profound betrayal of the oath every police officer takes upon joining the National Police Service.
The uniform symbolizes safety, integrity and public service. Every day, millions of Kenyans place their trust in police officers to protect families, enforce the law and stand between citizens and criminality. When rogue officers allegedly turn those very powers against the people they swore to serve, they damage the credibility of the entire institution and deepen public mistrust
The National Police Service must send an unmistakable message: there is no place in its ranks for officers who engage in murder, corruption, organized crime or any other criminal enterprise.
