NAIROBI, Kenya
President William Ruto has issued a tough warning to private security companies that continue to underpay their employees, describing the practice as “inhumane” and a violation of national law
Using his trademark phrase, “Mambo ni Matatu” (three things), Ruto warned that while the government is willing to address the challenges facing the private security industry, compliance with labour laws is not open to negotiation.

“The law of our nation says it is against the law and it is inhumane for someone to be paid below the minimum wage. We must work collaboratively to ensure that every security company operates within the parameters of the law,” the President said
Ruto expressed concern that some security guards are still earning between Sh6,000 and Sh8,000 per month, despite the government’s directive to improve workers’ pay.

He directed the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour, and the Private Security Regulatory Authority (PSRA) to intensify enforcement against companies that fail to comply with labour regulations.
According to the President, improving the welfare of security guards is part of the government’s broader plan to strengthen collaboration between private security providers and the National Police Service
